Learning technology has been one of main focuses in educational reform in recent years. The development of innovative technology has created more possibilities for science teaching and learning; for example, online technology is able to take students and teachers beyond the limit of campus to communicate with professional community members and other learning community around the world. Also, online databases allow students to access primary data or information for conducting complex analysis and to build models for interpreting scientific phenomena by using modeling software.

In the past few years, the TILE research team have developed a series of learning software that target different disciplines and subjects in an effort to engage students in complex scientific activities that are not possible without the help of modern technology. Associated with classroom activities or inquiry-based courses, these software facilitate students to perform scientific inquiry as scientists.
