SeasonSim
SeasonSim allows students to explore related concepts about the seasons through manipulating variables that influence the seasons, such as latitude, longitude, the tilted angle of the earth’s axis and eccentricity. Students can change these variables to see how solar radiation changes the Earth’s surface temperature. They can also test their hypotheses and reconstruct or build a model to explain why the Earth undergoes seasonal change. Default values of this software for Taiwan are 121.5° for latitude and 23.5° for longitude and 23.5° for the tilted angle of the earth’s axis and eccentricity for 0.017. Students are able to set any of these above variables and then compare the results shown in the two figures including solar radiation changes received by earth for one year period and distance changes between the earth and the sun for one year period.
